Pastoral Care of the Sick

This ministry brings Holy Communion to Catholics who are unable to attend Mass.

Parishioners/lay ministers have been trained to distribute the Eucharist to Catholics at nine independent/assisted living and skilled care facilities within the St. Anthony parish boundaries.  Mass is also celebrated every 2-3 months in each of these facilities.  These ministers also provide one-on-one Communion in private homes or residential care facilities for the elderly upon request.

The following are the facilities visited on a regular basis:

  • Eskaton Care Facility Greenhaven
  • Asian Community Center (ACC) Nursing Center
  • Revere Court (formerly Primrose)
  • ACC Greenhaven Terrace
  • ACC Maple Tree Village
  • Greenhaven Place (formerly Merrill Gardens, Emeritus, and Brookdale)
  • Greenhaven Estates
  • The Meadows at Country Place
  • Waterleaf

The Anointing of the Sick is a Catholic sacrament offered by the priest which provides strength, peace, and courage to overcome difficulties that go with a serious illness or the frailty of old age.

"...As soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him or her to receive this sacrament has already arrived. If a sick person who received this anointing recovers his health, he can in the case of another grave illness receive this sacrament again.  If during the same illness the person's condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated.  It is fitting to receive the Anointing of the Sick just prior to a serious operation.  The same holds for the elderly whose frailty becomes more pronounced."  (Catechism of the Catholic Church).

If you or someone you know may need to receive Holy Communion or the Sacrament of Annointing, please contact our Pastoral Care coordinator Kathy Reynolds at (916) 212-9949, kathy@stanthony-sacramento.org, or the parish office (916) 428-5678.
